Acquiring land and use of rights

Around 80 hectares of the 132 hectares of the bird reserve were purchased in 2001 by the two communes involved so that the land could be used for nature conservation purposes. The necessary funds came from a mitigation measure required by the nature conservation authorities (in connection with the rebuilding of the stadium in Salzburg/Klessheim). Within the framework of the LIFE project a further 40 hectares have been purchased, or rights to use the land for nature conservation been acquired.
This acquisition of land, or of rights to use it, had to take place before the active management measures could be carried out.
