The Weidmoos is not only a habitat for rare
birds; it is also a place to experience nature
first hand. During the ongoing LIFE-project
a series of visitor facilities have been built in the southern
part of the Weidmoos:
- A theme-path presents the habitats, bird-species
as well as the history of the area.
- At the "Information centre
Weidmoos" you can find out everything about
the Weidmoos and the LIFE-project.
- Hides offer you the
opportunity to observe birds without disturbing them.
- A viewing tower (height
12 m) gives you an impressive overview of the site.
During summer the Information
centre will only be open on appointment. You can arrange a guided tour to the Weidmoos with Johann
Grießner (head of the "Torferneuerungsverein Weidmoos", tel.: +43
(664) 4008733). In the autumn guided tours will be arranged at
fixed dates, which will be announced as soon as possible.
The bird species breeding at the Weidmoos
need undisturbed areas, where they can search for food and
raise their young. Therefore you have to observe some important
rules when visiting the European nature reserve Weidmoos:
- Keep to the paths! The
Weidmoos may only be entered along the marked theme-path!
- Keep dogs to a leach!
